Lara Almarcegui

Lara Almarcegui, 55ème Biennale de Venise, Pavillon Espagne, 2013

Invited in-residence, in Digne-les-Bains, after several tracking sessions, the spanish artist focused her attention on the reconfiguration site of the Bleone, the river crossing the city. Her project reinvests the construction site aimed to restore the original state of the river, after massive interventions over the last years, meant to angle the stream. Her project questions the impact of human intervention on environnement.

July 13th – September 22th

Jean-Jacques Rullier

Jean-Jacques Rullier, Le pèlerinage aux grottes sacrées. Sept. 1999. 60 X 44,5 cm. Ink and color pencil on paper.


CAIRN art center proposes to explore map as an art work resulting from the physical experience of walking, through Jean-Jacques Rullier’s drawings. The artist’s drawings trace his walks in Himalaya and India. His physical and spiritual paths conveys symbols and iconography from the explored lands. The drawings will echo maps of Alexandra David Néel, oriental explorator, whose house and archives have been donated to the city of Digne-les-Bains. This exhibition is included in the project « Marches, démarches » driven by FRAC Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.

Alessandro Quaranta

Artist in-residence at CAIRN art center during several weeks, Alessandro roamed the diferents sites of the UNESCO Haute-Provence Geopark, walking through forests, trails and villages. He started listening to a memory of sounds permeated in the mountains. This immersion in the space surrounding him to meet with diferents animal noises drives him to imagine a scenario for a video that will be filmed around the Eaux-Chaudes lake, while living several days on site. Some of the images will be shot with the participation of juniors from elementary school les Augiers where the artist led a workshop in 2018.
